Odissi Dance

Mudra | Movement | Mantra

This is a weekly open level class (aimed towards beginners) to introduce the foundations of classical Odissi Dance. Odissi comes from the state of Odisha, South East India. It is one of the few classicalised dance styles from India and is seeped in spirituality, tradition, and discipline.

No prior experience required. Whilst a background of dance, yoga, or martial arts is helpful, it is not required.

Casual $20 / $15 (Student Concession)
10 Class Pass $155 / $125 (Student Concession)

Payment can be made at the class via cash/card OR in advance via Bank Deposit.

Over the weeks, we will explore the very basics, including theory, mudra, mantra, lineage, and the foundational positions and exercises of Odissi dance.

LOCATION: Fleur Wellbeing, 2/5 Library Lane, CHARLESTOWN. Parking is free and unrestricted.

Regular attendance is highly encouraged. Please dress conservatively e.g. full length plain coloured leggings, fitted top with chest covered… a traditional Indian Kurta or a standard exercise tank/tee (without patterns or big logos) is great.

You will dance in bare feet.

Please bring a water bottle, hand towel, note book, and pen.
Recording classes is not allowed.

Amy dances under the lineage of Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.

Her main teacher is Colleena Shakti.

Amy has also studied under Sujata Mohapatra, Elena Catalino, and Sharon Lowen, whom are all under the same or a similar lineage stemming from the great Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra.
